  2. SMASH100.EXE is not shareware or freeware.  By purchasing
  3. this CDROM, you have been granted a license to use the
  4. program with this disk.  This software is provided
  5. on an "AS-IS" basis.  Softkey will not make any
  6. warranties or have any liabliity as to the software's
  7. operation or the results it produces or fails to produce.

  11. I.Installation Problems.
  12.   (All references to C: refer to the drive where windows
  13.    is installed.  D: refers to your CDROM drive)
  14.

  16.   1) SMASH100 is written using Microsoft(R) Visual Basic(tm) v3.0.  
  17.      Microsoft(R) and other Visual Basic(tm) custom control (VBX) makers
  18.      insist that to preserve the license of these controls
  19.      they be installed in the Windows\System directory.  Many
  20.      shareware or other programs do not follow these guidelines
  21.      and hence are in violation of the distribution agreements for
  22.      these controls.  In addition, they cause problems for those
  23.      who do follow the rules.  In order to maintain the license 
  24.      agreement, SMASH100 installs the Visual Basic controls from
  25.      each of the programs included on this CD ROM to the 
  26.      Windows\System directory during the setup of SMASH100.
  27.  
  28.      If during installation or operation of the SMASH100 program
  29.      you encounter "cannot copy", "Invalid property", or "Invalid
  30.      file format" messages or any other problems, please perform 
  31.      the following steps.
  32.  
  33.         1. Exit Windows
  34.         2. At the DOS prompt enter the following commands:
  35.     
  36.        copy c:\windows\*.vbx c:\windows\system
  37.        erase c:\windows\*.vbx
  38.  
  39.         3. (optional) type: dir c:\*.vbx /s /p 
  40.            Locate all vbx files and copy them to the windows\system
  41.            directory then delete them from the original location.
  42.  
  43.         4. Restart windows and reinstall the Softkey 100 Smash Windows
  44.        Games CDROM by choosing
  45.            file/run from Program Manager or File Manager and type d:\setup
  46.  
  47.      In addition, some programs copy VBRUN300.DLL and other VBX files to
  48.      other areas besides Windows\System directory.  It is advisable to
  49.      search your entire machine for VBRUN300.DLL and delete any occurance not
  50.      in your windows\system directory before installing Softkey 100 Smash 
  51.      Windows Games.

  53.      This can be done by using the FileManager's search under File\Search.

  56.   2) In the unlikely event that the setup routine fails, manual installation 
  57.      can be done by the following instructions:  [Remember, this is ONLY as
  58.      a last resort, and should not be done until ALL other options have 
  59.      been tried and have failed.]

  62.     1.  EXIT WINDOWS
  63.  
  64.     2.  At the dos prompt ( C:\> ) type:
  65.  
  66.         C:\> CD \
  67.                 C:\> MD \SMASH100
  68.                 C:\> COPY D:\SMASH100\*.* C:\SMASH100
  69.                 C:\> COPY D:\SMASH100\SYSTEM\*.* C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
  70.                 C:\> COPY D:\SMASH100\SMASH100.INI C:\WINDOWS
  71.                 C:\> COPY D:\SMASH100\SMASH100.HLP C:\WINDOWS

  73.         3. If your CDROM drive is not "D:" then edit the SMASH100.INI and
  74.            change the line "Path=D:\" replacing D: with your drive
  75.            i.e. "Path=E:\"
  76.  
  77.                 C:\> EDIT C:\WINDOWS\SMASH100.INI
  78.  
  79.     4.  Restart Windows and create a Smash 100 group and 
  80.         icon in Progam
  81.             Manager by following the instructions below:
  82.  
  83.         1. From the Program Manager menu, select File then New
  84.         2. Select Program Group option and click Ok.
  85.         3. In the Group Name type: Smash 100
  86.         4. Click Ok to create the group.
  87.                 5. From the Program Manager menu, select File then New
  88.         6. Select Program Item option and click Ok.
  89.                 7. In Description, type: Softkey 100 Smash Windows Games 
  90.                 8. In Command Line, type: C:\SMASH100\SMASH100.EXE
  91.                 9. In Working Directory, type: C:\SMASH100
  92.         10. Click OK to create the Icon.

  94.     5.  If you have further problems, please read the notes above.

  96.    3) DISK SPACE - SMASH100 takes up less than 1 megabyte of hard disk when
  97.       installed on your computer. During installation, Setup.exe copies 
  98.       about 500K of files to a temporary directory.  These files are 
  99.       required to install SMASH100 but are deleted after the setup is 
  100.       finished. It can require 2.5 megabytes to install.  If you get the 
  101.       message that you do not have enough free space to install SMASH100,
  102.       move some files to a floppy or decrease the size of your swap file
  103.       until you have completed the installation then you can put them back.
